Privacy Policy
NetWorks is a Windows network management application published by GoblesWiki (Steve Goble). This page explains what data the application handles, where it lives, and the very small number of cases where anything leaves your machine.
The short version
NetWorks does not run analytics, telemetry, or ad tracking of any kind.
Almost everything the app does — adapter configuration, diagnostics, presets, logs, terminal sessions — happens entirely on your PC and stays there. The only outbound network calls NetWorks itself makes are described below.
Data stored on your device
NetWorks keeps its configuration and history locally, under
%APPDATA%\NetWorks\ on your PC:
- settings.json — your selected theme, layout, dashboard module visibility, and IP configuration presets.
- known_hosts — SSH host fingerprints, stored in hashed OpenSSH format.
- Logs\ — local diagnostic and activity logs generated by the app.
- WebView2\ — a local browser cache used to render the in-app terminal.
None of this is uploaded, synced, or backed up to any NetWorks or GoblesWiki server. It stays on your machine unless you export it yourself (for example, using the log export or preset backup features).
Saved credentials (Pro)
If you use the Pro Credential Vault to save SSH or device access credentials,
those secrets are encrypted with Windows' built-in DPAPI (tied to your Windows
user account) before being written to settings.json. Custom
Connection Hub definitions never store raw passwords or private keys directly —
only an encrypted reference into the vault. We never see or receive these
credentials.
Connections NetWorks makes on your behalf
These are the only network calls initiated by the application itself:
- License validation (Pro). If you've activated a Pro license, NetWorks sends your license key to our third-party payment and licensing provider via a single HTTPS request on startup and on activation, to confirm the key is valid. That provider processes this solely to validate your purchase and does not receive any other data from the app.
- Connections you explicitly configure. SSH sessions, Connection Hub workflows, and launches of RDP/VNC/PuTTY/WinSCP go directly from your PC to the device or hostname you specify — never through NetWorks or GoblesWiki infrastructure.
Optional third-party command-line tools you may choose to install separately (such as Ookla Speedtest or Wireshark/tshark) are not bundled with NetWorks and are governed by their own respective privacy practices, not this policy.
Children's privacy
NetWorks is a professional and home network utility, not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 13.
Changes to this policy
If NetWorks' data practices change in a future release, this page will be updated accordingly, and the "Last updated" date above will reflect it.
